Leading UK scrap metal processor S. Norton & Co Ltd of Manchester has acquired a majority shareholding in pioneering plastics recycler Axion Recycling Ltd. The £3 million (Euro 4.5 million/US$ 5.7 million) investment encompasses a 40 000 square foot facility at Salford, Manchester, which was previously occupied by a major producer of high-grade virgin plastic compounds. Axion’s recycled products are high-grade compounded polymers - including polypropylene, polyethylene and polystyrene - which will be sold under the ‘Axpoly’ brand name.

According to J. David Aronson, Tube City Division’s Executive Vice President Outsourced Purchasing, the opening demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to its customers and partners in the Chinese market. Steven Liu will work in the office as a liaison with customers and suppliers to Tube City in the purchase and sale of scrap metal and other raw materials, as well as steel mill services.
