[platte tekst]Scrap processor S. Norton & Co of Liverpool, U.K., has taken delivery of a new R 984C EW Litronic generation materials handler for ship-loading tasks and other dockside duties.
Three of Liebherr’s largest specialist materials handling machines are helping S. Norton & Co. to load scrap metal into ships’ cargo holds and are also carrying out general stockpiling duties at the company’s facilities at West Canada Dock in Liverpool.
The latest machine to join Norton’s fleet of Liebherr material handlers is a new generation R 984C EW Litronic which boasts a 136 tonnes operating weight, extra-wide crawler undercarriage and 7850 mm flat trackpads for maximum stability. Currently the largest Liebherr machine of its type in the U.K., it is equipped with a 12 metre straight industrial boom plus a 9 metre industrial stick, giving it a maximum height of 19 metres and a maximum reach of 22 metres.

Albert Cozzi, Frank Cozzi, Gregory Cozzi and their sister Therese Cozzi Freeman left Chicago-based Metal Management early in 2004, along with three other employees. The U.S. company has appointed New York-based investment banker Daniel Dienst as its new CEO. Mr Dienst has been Metal Management’s Chairman since April last year and has served as a Director since June 2001. In addition, Harold Rouster has been appointed Vice President and President of Metal Management’s Central U.S.’s region executive posts.

Craig P. Eddy, President and CEO of Coastal Aluminum Rolling Mills Inc. of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, U.S., has begun his term as the new Chairman of the Washington-based Aluminum Association. Master Magnets Ltd of Redditch, Worcestershire, U.K., has recently won an order from Taiwan for a large electro-magnetic drum to be used in the removal of ferrous material from shredded car residues at a car fragmentiser plant near Shanghai in China. The customer is processing up to 100 tonnes per hour of end-of-life-vehicles and needs to remove as much ferrous material as possible prior to further processing. The order for the equipment was obtained following intensive negotiations.
Following the acquisition of Integrated Recycling Systems Ltd, Master Magnets can now offer shredders, conveyors and complete sorting plants as well as magnetic and non-ferrous (eddy current) separation equipment.

Global Partners Alliance L.L.C. of Bettendorf, Iowa, has become the exclusive North American sales agent for SWB Stahlformguss of Bochum, Germany, a foundry producing wear parts for metal recycling equipment. SWB is the world’s only manufacturer of differentially-hardened alloy hammers for shredding equipment, according to Global Partners’ Principal Officer Patrick Comparin.
SWB makes its hammers using a proprietary heat-treatment process that produces softer pin bores for increased hammer pin life as well as a harder impact surface along the critical wear area of the hammer. According to Mr Comparin, every SWB casting undergoes independent inspection using a magnetic particle process to check for possible cracks and ultrasonic methods to assess the material’s structure. Recy America has installed its complete suite of software products at Southern Recycling Group, which is headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. The Southern Recycling Group of scrap companies was established in 1900 and operates some 20 sites, including several shredders. The company began production using the software at all major sites earlier this year. In other news, Recy America says it has clinched another contract with Sadoff Iron & Metal of Fond-du-Lac, Wisconsin, U.S., a large scrap recycler also with multiple sites.
