The patented* and field-proven single-knife DE-STONER® is ideal for the classification of recycled materials. Glass containers and cullet, plus other heavy residuals, can now be automatically separated from aluminum and various plastic containers in commingled waste streams, following ferrous removal. A full description is contained in sales Bulletin 1091A and a higher capacity dual-knife unit is described in bulletin 484A.

The DE-STONER separates and classifies bulk materials on the basis of density or particle size. In operation, material is stratified by both the unit's vibrating action and air fluidizing sections before being exposed to dual & air curtains' which provide thorough and complete classification.

Another innovative dry processing machine, which complements the DE-STONER classifying unit, is the patented* FINGER SCREEN. This unit performs an initial size separation of mixed bulk materials, containing a variety of sizes, especially those which would catch or hang up in a conventional perforated or wire mesh screening surface. Its unique cascading material flow over a series of slotted tapered finger elements, having integral camming surfaces' solves this problem.

An aggressive vibrating motion evenly spreads material across the unit's entire deck width to take full advantage of the large open area, available with the tapered finger design. This makes the efficiency of separation far superior to other conventional screening devices. Multiple screening surfaces can be incorporated into a single unit. Bulletin 389B contains full details.

The FINGER-SCREEN has proven a less costly alternative to the rotary trommel and disc type screening devices typically used for material classification. A primary advantage is that it does not fluff paper which would increase material volume that must be handled by subsequent equipment. Also, it does not have to be periodically stopped to remove material which has wound itself around disc screen shafts.

Both designs are dynamically balanced eliminating the need for complex supporting structures, are constructed for heavy-duty continuous operation, have few moving parts and are virtually jam proof. Two-mass natural frequency operation minimizes power requirements to assure an energy efficient, low maintenance installation.
