HIMEX is a free service sponsored by the Maui Recycling Group. Funding and other support are provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency, The State of Hawaii Department of Health, and the County of Maui.

HIMEX matches businesses, organizations and individuals with materials that they need to dispose of, with businesses, organizations and individuals who can use these materials. HIMEX helps prevent improper landfill disposal of recoverable resources, helps prevent pollution and, saves money by facilitating no-cost "trades" between HIMEX listors, thereby reducing costs for materials acquisition and disposal.
